Our Volunteers

Kelly Mitchell

Kelly completed her Peer Support Nova Scotia initial training and is known around the Center as “Mom”. She tends to be the one that sets the rules and keeps things organized but once in a while she will let down her guard and show a bit of her fun side. She is creative and enjoys penpaling, quilting, gardening, rock painting, home decor, minor construction projects, graphic art, shopping on amazon, and is addicted to Pinterest. Recently she is trying to learn the guitar so she can help youth at the Center learn as well. Kelly is also the leader of our Jack.Org AMF Yarmouth Chapter.

Scott Mitchell

Scott completed his initial training with Peer Support Nova Scotia and has the unique ability to help others see their troubles in a positive light. He feels most alive when surrounded by youth and putting smiles on their faces. Scott is a huge Star Wars fan and likes to introduce the genre to anyone that does not feel the force. His other interests are camping, fishing, exploring, and debating various topics with anyone that will take him on. Being the perfect husband he loves to cook and clean. Scott is also a co-leader of our Jack.Org AMF Yarmouth Chapter.

Lynn Dupuis

I've lived with mental illness, and have been surrounded by it my entire life. During the majority of the time, however, I was not even aware. Addiction and mental illness are predominant factors that compromise my genetics, and unfortunately, I have succumb victim to both. Perhaps it was circumstantial, possibly by choice, or potentially even both. It's taken most of my life for me to realize that not one of these factors determine who I am, or who I have the potential to be. But it's partially based upon the decisions that I make every day, and some of those come easier than others. We always have choices, and I'm constantly practicing on being a better person than I was the day before. I've been on my own road of self-recovery for a few years now, and I hope to shed some light. Even if it's just for one person.

Kait Smith

My name is Kait. I’m an entrepreneur/ small business owner. I love learning and creating new things, I REALLY love cats, and am a major foodie. I started as a volunteer at Aidean’s Place very soon after it opened. I knew right away that I wanted to be involved. It’s a place I wish had been around when I was growing up in Yarmouth. Now at 26, I want to help make a positive impact on the youth in the area in any way I can. I have struggled with mental health my entire life and have worked really hard (and had a lot of support) to get where I am today. I want youth to know they are not alone and they are capable of making their dreams come true. I am in the process of being peer support trained and am excited to continue to grow here at Aidean’s Place.

Michelle Blauvelt

My name is Michelle and, I feel blessed to be here. I am an animal rights activist. I love Jesus, sign language, and cooking vegan dishes. I have my own comic strip that I post online. I am on the board for the LGBTQ+Alliance of Yarmouth. I believe in equality. You be you, I' ll be me but, let's be friends. I respect you and, I want you to be safe.
